Madumadawa Aravinda Questioned By CID Over Aluthgama Clash

Popular singer Madumadawa Aravinda is to be questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for reciting poems at the controversial BBS rally which took place in Aluthgama on June 15.

Police sources confirmed Asian Mirror that Madumadawa Aravinda was asked to visit CID headquarters this afternoon to give his statement.

It was widely alleged that the BBS rally in Aluthgama led to violent clashes in Aluthgama which claimed at least six lives and injured many.

At the meeting the singer recited a few poems written by S Mahinda thera urging the crowd to rally around on behalf of the ‘Sinhala nation’.

Madumadawa Aravinda is known to be a member of the Jathika Hla Urumaya (JHU), a constituent party of the UPFA. Having represented the Colombo Municipal Council from the ruling party, Aravinda also contested the recently held western Provincial Council election under the UPFA ticket. However he failed to secure a seat in the Provincial Council.

Speaking to media soon after the rally the singer had said he took part in the BBS event to extend his support to the BBS course. He has not yet revealed whether he is a member of the Bodu Bala Sena, a hardcore Sinhala Buddist organization.
