A special religious ceremony was held yesterday (Aug. 10) at the Thambala Jumma Mosque in Lankapura, Polonnaruwa to bless President Maithripala Sirisena.
The President who arrived in the Mosque was warmly welcomed by Islamic devotees. The Islamic religious leaders, including Mavulavi Naina Marikkar held a special religious prair and blessed the President.
The President also had cordial discussions with the Islamic devotees gathered at the Mosque.
President Sirisena, addressing the gathering said he would fulfill the expectations of the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people in the country who elected him as the President of Sri Lanka in the election held on January 08.
He also stated the development of physical resources is not enough for a country and added that we should build a country, establishing the peace and brotherhood, where everybody can live with confidence.
The President further stated that he would take action to develop the places of worship of Buddhism as well as other religions.
