A deep rift has emerged in the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), political sources revealed to The Sunday Leader.
Some senior members of the BBS had left the organization just days ahead of the final day of handing over nominations to contest the Parliament election next month.
Asked for a comment, BBS Gampaha District candidate Vijtiha Rohana said that he had resigned from the BBS as the organisation has appointed someone else as its Gampaha District organizer and since he has been removed from the post, he left the party.
He further said that even though he made inquiries over the matter from the president of the BBS Ven. Galaboda Atthe Gnanasara Thero, he did not provide any reason for the removal to date.
When contacted by The Sunday Leader, Ven Gnanasara Thero said that as a new party, the BBS is functioning smoothly and that Vijitha Rohana has expressed his personal views.
The nomination of the BBS is scheduled to be submitted tomorrow (Monday) and Ven. Gnanasara Thero is to contest the election from the Kalutara District and a Buddhist monk will contest for each seat. The BBS election manifesto will be made public within one week, sources from the BBS said.
